ILA is pleased to hold a series of short 'one hour max talk' with key decision makers who have already walked or have concrete plans to walk the pass to a strategy that fully embeds sustainability. The objective of these talks will be allow these decision makers to very concretely explain their 'sustainability strategy' and most of all provide feedback on what role their boards and the governance model in general has been or is playing in getting there.

This interview will be hosted by Andy Schmidt and Isabelle Delas members of the ILA Sustainability Strategy for Boards committee, who will welcome Carlo Hein, CEO of Ramborn.

Carlo Hein

Carlo Hein has 25 years’ experience in Luxembourg across the property development and management, renewable energy, and beverage sectors.  He joined his family business, Becolux SA, as Administrator in 1996 and has developed competencies related to a broad range of construction and real estate projects including shopping centers, offices and land development.

Carlo’s passion and strengths lie in designing custom made solutions that appeal to both investors and tenants.  He does this by integrating technology to reduce operating and energy costs while guaranteeing the tenant’s wellbeing.

Carlo’s computer science background enabled him to reconsider how to implement building infrastructure management systems with cloud computing solutions. Carlo believes that new technologies have already impacted real estate management and that building infrastructure management systems, the Internet of things, big data and digital factory are the concepts which will reshape the industry. The wellbeing of the people working in the buildings impacts their productivity, and productivity will define future rents.

This commitment to excellence has allowed Becolux to achieve BREEAM In-Use certification with the highest possible score - “Outstanding in Asset & Management”. Bloomberg, Aviva Funds, Tishman Speyer and Patrizia Immobilien are a few examples, amongst many, of actual tenants managed in the Becolux portfolio.

Becolux’s activities in the renewable energy sector and beverage sector highlight Carlos’ entrepreneurial capabilities.  Starting with the first windfarm in 1996 and the first large scale solar park in 2003, today the company is one of the major private investors in renewable energy in Luxembourg.

In 2014, Carlo intended to ferment his own cider for private use.  5 years later, Ramborn Cider is the leading cider company in Luxembourg and Ramborn has achieved B Corp status.
